Banderas Bay

The experience

The Bay of Banderas lies along Mexico’s Pacific coast, where the Sierra Madre mountains meet the sea. The coastline shifts from wide sandy beaches to small coves and rocky points, with offshore islands and volcanic pinnacles rising from deep water.

Below the surface, volcanic rock formations and seasonal currents support a wide range of marine life. From scuba diving and snorkeling to winter whale watching and exploring coastal villages, the bay offers something different for every taste.

Water conditions

Water conditions vary mostly seasonally. During the summer months, water temperatures are warm, often reaching around 30–32°C. Starting in November, temperatures begin to cool, and by January they are usually around 20°C, getting colder toward April, when they can reach approximately 16°C.

Visibility also varies seasonally. From July to November, visibility is usually excellent, with 20–30 meters being common, offering warm waters and beautiful blue conditions. Visibility can be affected during the rainy months, especially in July, particularly at dive sites closer to riverbeds.
